ISSUE 111 | THE BASIC LAWS OF THE MIND
Each week The (Quantum) Leap summarises a key aspect of success into what you need to Think, Feel and Do to create a personal shift.
What we believe to be real creates our experience of reality, even if it isn’t real to start with.
~ Paul Blackburn
THINK
Most people assume that their thoughts reflect reality. But our minds don’t just passively observe the world - they actively shape it based on our beliefs, emotions and unconscious patterns.
The mind operates on fundamental laws that govern our thoughts, feelings, and actions. By understanding and applying them, we can take control of our results.
First Basic Law:
We selectively gather evidence to prove our already established beliefs.
We’re wired to confirm what we already believe - whether it helps us or holds us back. Even when presented with contradictory evidence, we tend to dismiss it as an exception rather than reconsider our beliefs.
Reflection Questions:
- How have your beliefs shaped your experiences?
- Can you recall a time when you ignored evidence that challenged your viewpoint?
- How can you become more aware of the filters your mind applies to reality?
Second Basic Law:
We attract people and events that reinforce our beliefs.
Thoughts are not just random mental activity - they’re forms of measurable electro-magnetic energy that radiate outward, influencing what we attract into our lives.
Reflection Questions:
- What types of people or experiences consistently show up in your life?
- What patterns seem to repeat?
- What underlying beliefs might be attracting these situations?
Understanding these laws allows us to take charge of our mental patterns, rather than being controlled by them. With this knowledge we can use our minds to directly influence our body and our emotions - and the profound change in perception will significantly reduce stress and overwhelm.
FEEL
Your subconscious does not judge whether a thought is good or bad - it simply acts on whatever you focus on. This is why persistent negative thinking often leads to more negativity in life.
Other powerful laws of the mind that impact our emotions include:
Resist Not Evil: Fighting against something only ensures its existence. What we resist, persists.
Sowing & Reaping: What you hold in your mind will come back to you. Your current results are a reflection of past thoughts.
Cause & Effect: Every result in your life has an underlying cause - if you want to change the outcome, you must change the source.
Reflection Questions:
- What three negative thoughts do you have most often?
- How do these thoughts make you feel?
- How could you rephrase them to serve you better?
- Are there any areas in your life where you feel unhappy with your results? What thoughts may have contributed to them?
By adjusting our focus and language, we can shift the emotions that drive our actions.
DO
To create change, we must apply the laws of the mind deliberately and consistently. There are a couple of other laws that affect our results when we take action.
The Law of Commitment: Once we fully commit to a belief, goal, or action, our chances of success increase dramatically.
- What is one goal or change you need to fully commit to?
- How has lack of commitment affected your past results?
The Law of Attraction: Whatever dominates your mind is what you will attract into your life. If you constantly think about avoiding failure, your mind stays fixated on failure rather than success.
- How has this law worked for or against you in the past?
- What would you rather focus on?
Next Steps:
- Identify one belief you want to shift.
- Actively look for evidence that contradicts your limiting belief.
- Replace it with a new, empowering belief and commit to reinforcing it daily.
Until we understand and apply these laws, we remain passive observers of our lives. But once we do, we gain the power to shape our reality intentionally.
When you deliberately put what’s in your conscious mind into your subconscious there will be three consequences:
- For the rest of your life, you will be able to change habits, negative thought patterns and unwanted belief systems.
- You can ensure what you put out on the hazy wave is what you want, rather than what might be in your subconscious now. This will enable you to attract the people and events that will nurture you.
- You can discover a force that is far more powerful and less fickle than mere willpower.
Remember…
Your mind is the most powerful tool you have. When you learn to direct it, everything in your life will begin to shift.
