THINK
Here we are in early February (2023) and many people are feeling like they need another holiday - already.
As we used to say back in my school teaching days…
“I’ve been away for six weeks - I’ve been back for six days and it feels like I never went away!”
Rather than hang out for the next long-ish break - think in micro doses.
How do I experience a shot of rejuvenation today?
A smidgin of refreshment.
A piece of revitalisation.
As little as half an hour a day (even in 10 min bites) will launch you so far down the track you’ll be unrecognisable in 12 months.
FEEL
What we can and can’t do is ruled with an iron fist by the emotions we have around them. Think about grabbing half an hour of ‘me time'.
If guilt, shame, anxiety, unworthiness or a thousand other negatives show up…
The issues is not “What is the most revitalising thing to do?”
Nor is it, “What works best?”
But rather, “I can't I allow myself this gift.”
It’s normal to distract from those ugly feelings.
But you can’t doom scroll your way to your goals.
Try this instead:
- Imagine doing something luxurious and indulgent.
- Identify the negative emotions that arise.
- Turn towards them and feel them properly.
- Watch them dissipate.
DO
If you know what works for you…
(meditation, dancing, dog wrestling, kid wrangling, gym…)
…and it’s not in your diary - go back to the previous section and use the 4 step process.
To know and not to do, is not to know.
